unit 6:step 2

1. The chimney sweeper(song of innocence)
- it talks about how this little chimney sweep named tom, and how when he was a small child , to small to even cry, he mother had died. When his mother had died his dad decided to sell him to be a chimney sweeper. after his dad sold him , he cry like everynight until he had a dream about his mom who told him to happy because soon he would be with her. when he woke up , he was happy , because he had a happy thought to return to when he felt sad.
  The Chimney Sweeper(Song of Experience)
- this poem is talking about a different chimney sweeper. it starts off by a stranger asking the little chimney sweep, why he iz crying and where are his parents, the little chimney sweep replies by saying that his parent are at church praying for him even though his parent well the one to sell them into this horrible life.while his parent at church also praying to the god that cause so much misery upon him. he tell the stranger that just because he does act as if he is happy , and because dance , and sing.  to me the people in this time didn't really pay attention to their kids. they were really just about looks , and how to get ahead.

2. William Wordsworth
(Strange Fits of Passion Have I Known)
- This is strange , and interesting at the same time , it talks about William riding out in the middle of a moonlit night going toward his Lucy. as he rides he is imagining his Lucy and the way he longed for her and the way she  was like " fresh as a rose in June" , as he rides he starts to closer and closer to her , and as he does this he imagination gets wilder. as he goes on he talks about how he feels about her when they are in their meadow, and how he has dream of this many night , but as so many thought run through his head , something just ridiculous pops into his head, that what if he gets there , and she is dead. to me it is a representation of Romanticism because he shows so much emotion in his poem. he express so much  emotion towards his Lucy

3. Lord Byron/George Gordon
(She Walks in Beauty)
- This poem is describing Lord Byron watching a beautiful woman, who is beyond comparison. although he notices her beauty and the softness of her face he can still see she is sadden. For example, Lord Byron uses many naturalist themes in his description of the girl. Take for example the line, " She walks in beauty like the night"  he compares her beauty to the night, and in the next line he compares her to starry skies, he is using beautiful elements of nature to describe the appearance of the girl. another example of Romanticism Lord Byron's ability to use words of his time in his poem to describe this woman so eloquently. one more element , is that one can tell through his words the great emotion and powerful feelings.

4. Percy Shelley
(England in 1819)
The poem is an outcry for how the English govt. had been operating . Shelly shared many of the same feeling of fury and anger that much of other Englishmen towards Parliament. as well as a outcry, the poem is also a description of the massacre that had occured in 1819. this poem is a good example of romantic poetry because Shelley uses powerful words to describe the change that he felt was needed for the British govt. we can see how strongly Shelley feels about the current regime in England. Some examples of strong language he uses are " despised, scorn , muddy, starved, stabbed, blood, liberticide, godless, Christless, graves, phantom, slay, and tempestuous. all these words provide emotion and set the tone for how the poem reads.

5. John Keats
(When I Have Fears)
The poem itself describes a moment that everyone has at some piont in their life. This moment is the fear of knowing that at any possible second you could die. As keats comtemples that fact, he relizes he had never loved another. He has never experienced that wonderful moment of loving another with your whole heart and asking nothing in return. He starts to wonder what if he dies without knowing love, feeling love , and haveing it as his own. The subject matter is about love. The emotion of dying is what triggers this fear of not having loved before dying. A good example of this being a romanticism poem is the line where Keats says " then on the shore  of the wide world i stand alone and think till love and fame to nothingness do sink." He uses naturalistc images such as the shore and wide world to describe the empiness of not haveing loved.

unit 6 : step 1

1.
A.. French revolution: it was started by storming the Bastille.1789
B.The American revolution to the English. 1774
2.
A. The people of France during the revolution had many emotions. They had hope and excitement for the new regime, but also with change comes fear. There was turmoil and disillusionment because there was a massacre that had  killed many innocent royalty who had very little ties to the last regime. However, with the people who had backed up the revolution ,they were excited and didn't see the injustice, just yet.
B. The American revolution was a very important, for it had put uncertainty in England. The American revolution caused England great economic loss, and a loss of prestige and confidence. In a way, the American revolution provided confidence for the french and their revolution, thus leaving England to feel rigid and backed into a corner.
3.
The Romantic poets wanted to express new feelings, expression of self-revelation and imagination. They wanted to explore new and mysterious ideas of the human self. The poets of the Romantic Period wanted the reader to feel the passion and/or misery in their writing. The Romantic poets saw true beauty in nature and of the human self. They felt the industrial revolution was killing all of the natural beauty and the soul of man kind.

Unit 5: closing

5. To me what was the most important to them was a varity of things. To most it was living through the plague that was happening. Everyone was trying to do anything to save themselves. It sad to relize how much people were doing to each other to be so selfish to hurt others to keep yourself save.second thing would be love. Because there was alot of poetry going on . another thing that comes into play, is the church! the church was respected and feared as was the king in these times. The church was as powerful or more then, the king. The church was exploiting the people as much as the king , the priest and bishops and padres would have the the peasant come to church and have them believe if they didnt give most of their money , they wouldn't go to heaven. and the little money that the peasant had from the church exploiting them , would go to the lords.

Unit 5: 1-4

1.a. The Glorious Revolution or the bloodless revolution was pretty much about one main person, Jame II and his actions and beliefs. this one man causes this whole revolution. well' as the story goes , James  was extremist  of the Catholic religion. He put  a hold on almost anything that questioned the Catholic believes. He had took every Protestant out of parliament and replaced them with Catholic officials. As you can tell, he was regressing the kingdom singlehandedly. And When the people found out that King James II's wife had gave birth to a heir, The people did like it. So , they had the William Of Orange , his nephew and son-in-law, had been put in place to replace James. And when the people had revolted , James had ran to France , thinking the people were going to harm his son.

b. This event is so important because this revolution had so many different ways of dealing with something then many revolution of this age. One of the things that makes this revolution different from other revolution , is that , they didn't kill anyone. This revolution was the only one in this time period that didn't kill someone to get them out of power. another thing about this revolution was that this was the last time the Catholic church had any control over England at all!

2. The definition of satire is to be ironic or to have irony or sarcasm. To me satire makes  living more of a life instead of existing  . This is life little joke on us. There are so many things that have satire , from movie  to TV , to everyday life.  Like the other day me and some friends went out to catch bumblebees  for entomology class. And i was the only one who was bold enough to go near the hive to catch one , but the whole time my friend, Irving, was saying i was going to get stung and mocking me , and acting like he was me, but when i went to get a bee , Irving ended up getting stung .

3. "The Modest Proposal" was  a satire in a almost cruel way, but a satire all the same. Jonathan Swift was talking about how by eating 1 year infant, its good for the economy, and country in general. He mostly talks about all the reason why its a good idea. For example: it would give woman more job, it  would also  help with the overcrowded streets of beggar. one that is really twisted that he said it would help the hungry people of the country and also that it would make sure that the husbands would beat on their wives for the fact of having a miscarriages. So Jonathan was trying to compare the cruelty that the English had did to the Irish, and justifying by saying it was for the country.

4. The Diary From Samuel Pepys was really complicated and difficult to read. i had to search almost every other word, but i made it through it. Samuel was mostly talking about how many people family had died, And how town were infected within weeks. onee of thing that sticks in my mind , is that a whole family was killed by the virus , but one little infant was still alive from this whole family. this bitcher and his wife , who had lost their infant from the plague , had found the infant, and decided to take in this lucky little baby. To relize  some many family had died in the street and so many were dying , that they had just starting burying them in groups.

The pardoner's tale (rap)

The rap to me was a easier to understand then the story.  The rap was easier to understand because the beat kept my interest. But the story was a good story to begin with to me. I like this story because this story had a lot of good twists and turns. Like, in the beginning , it started of with 3 really bad dudes , who were sitting in a bar ; gambling , drinking, and smoking. Then all of a sudden , like every other bar has , The Cryer, the dude who starts drinking then starts crying. Then The Cryer starts telling his story, of how his friend died in his sleep. And that when the twist comes in , the 3 guys who have been drinking this whole time , decide to go out and try to kill death itself. And that when you know that are drunk because they are trying to kill death.

Well, the 3 men , looking for death run across a crippled, elderly, and injured man and decide to threaten this man to tell  them where they can find death, and the old man told them to go look under the tree to find death. that when the next twist come, the 3 thugs go look under this tree and find a bunch of money. Then the 3 thugs decide to pull straw to see who will go get the wine , to celebrate the good fortune of finding money. And that when the next twist comes in because the 2 guys who stayed behind decided to kill the third dude so they only have to split it 2 ways. but while these to are plotting behind the 3rd one's back , the 3rd one decide he don't want to split it at all , so he poisons the wine. so when the 3rd guy comes back with the poison wine , the other 2 thugs kill him , then after they kill him , they drink the poison wine , and die too!! So, Finally they all find death! To me the irony is strong in this story, but then again that what makes it great!

unit 2: opening

To me the medieval period full of people who were inconsiderate , and only thought about Themselves. Everyone was trying to get ahead by stepping on other people to get there. The king, the lords, and the knights sole concerns were themselves. They were all trying to get more money , land , and material things for themselves, and didn't care who they hurt. the beat and overworked all underneath them on the sole purpose that they thought they could. and the sad thing is that this poor , hardworking serfs would go to church to get peace and pray and give all there money to the church . In reality the church, The most holy place , was getting payed and giving all the serfs money right back to the lords and knight and king, that treated them so bad. So, to me the Feudal System is rigged.

Beowolf

To me Beowolf was a little boring to start off , but then i relized that the Anglo-Saxon religion is very big on lineage. Hrothgar was destined for a good and prospers life. he had a father and grandfather be great heroes , and protectors. So , as grain began the story he had a great life. But that when the inciting incident begins , Grendel. Grendel was the monster who was supposedly the monster who controlling and  was exiled with all evil beings including zombies, elves, and monsters. Grendel was the doom that hung over the kings head for it was unknown pain. Grendel attacks were cowardly in my eyes, because he had attacked this innocent joyful people , in the middle of the night while they were sleeping. He had killed 30 people and felt no regret. he had even laughed as if it meant nothing. as Grendel killed mercilessly , no one dared came into the mead-hall, so as the fear traveled so did the story of Grendel. soon the story hit Geats, and that where our hero enters the story.

Beowolf, the hero, had heard of the torture and pain of this people in Herot, and felt as thought he needed  to help this people. So he brought 14 of the bravest warriors and set sail to Herot. Beowolf in my eyes , had made ,himself a great hero for this fact alone. he had set out on a voyage to a unknown land to help innocent people that he did not know, to a almost a impossible mission to kill a monster who was almost invincible. So, as a god hero does , he got to the mead-hall determine to kill grendal and save these people. So, when Beowolf had got there in the morning , ready to fight but, he was informed that grendal only comes at night so Beowolf decided to wait. So, he waited , and waited , and waited , soon night came. Beowolf decided to plan a sneak attack , and take all his men to the mead-hall and sleep there for the so when grendal got there he wouldn't be the wiser. as the night went on , Grendal finally arrived, he had saw the men in the mead-hall in saw it as a easy dinner. So as grendal started of his usual activities , he started by picking up what he thought was a helpless , pathetic very dimwitted , and weak mortal. But, what he didnt't expect was Beowolf.

As Grendal was reaching for beowolf , beowolf got up and grabed him by his hand broke all his fingers. At, that very moment , grendal relized beowolf was not a force to be messed with. in this part of the story , beowolf really proves his strength , and courage, because as he grabs up this almost godlike cresture , he makes grendal terrified and makes him run home like a little toddler who got his candy tooken away by the playground bully. but as beowolf starts to fight grendal he cuts off grendal arm , at that very moment grendal saw his way out and ran! He ran towards his home , the great lake, for he saw he was going to die.

What i think is so amazing and interesting is that when Grendel's body was in the water , the WATER STARTED TO BOIL, and turn red from Grendel body and blood. because supposedly he was so evil and treacherous that his blood did that to the water. But after the warriors and Beowulf was sure he was dead , they started to celebrate their great victory over Grendel. they were happy about Grendel's death, there was people from all over to come to the kingdom to congratulate the king for such a great victory. When Beowulf to show the king that Grendel was dead it surprised me on how even thought he had defeated Grendel, Beowulf was so unsatisfied with what he did. He didn't feel like he had kill Grendel good enough, or made him be punished enough for what he did. but then he attitude changes in says almost like oh,well, he will get what he gets when the "Great Judgement".

That the thing about this story, why i don't like this story, because to me it seems like the original Anglo-Saxon way the story would have went another way in the story. Because to me the Anglo-Saxon belifs was interesting and just made everything interesting. the myths and super strength , god-like glow and the fact of mythical creatures , and magical swords and golden goblet , just spice up a story. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to knock christian beliefs, to each is his own , but put god in the story with monster , and creatures from the underworld, seems a little far fetched. but besides that , this story was a little catching because it has all its basics, action, death, and straight fight after fight with slight possibly of death. Even, saying that it was a good story just not a story for me.
